Apprentice’s Indenture, 1923.
Legal document detailing a five year apprenticeship to a dental surgeon. Although made in 1923, the document is based on a form of words that would have been used in many apprenticeship agreements a century or more earlier. Such documents clearly outlined the duties and behaviour of the apprentice. In this case, the dental surgeon, Israel Scher, was a member of the Jewish community in Cork which was thriving in the early 20th century, but has since declined in numbers.(CCCA SM606 Healy Apprenticeship), 1923.
