Before Your Visit

  • Search our online catalogue, and guide in order to locate records/collections/items relevant to your research
  • Contact the Archives by email. Our Archivists can send you descriptive lists and reference numbers of records, relevant to your research, that are not yet fully listed in the online catalogue and guide.
  • Once you have fully identified your required collections/items, please complete and return your Reader Application Form well in advance of your proposed visit, in order to obtain an appointment.
  • Once your completed Reader Application has been received, the Archives will contact you to arrange confirmed dates/times of appointment(s).
  • All material to be researched in the Research Room must be ordered in advance of your appointment(s) using the relevant collection and item reference numbers obtained from the online catalogue, or as obtained from the Archivists. A maximum of 20 items and comprising no more than 10 boxes, may be pre-ordered for any 3 hour appointment slot.
  • Please ensure to bring original current photographic identification, plus official proof of address, to your first appointment in order to complete the Reader registration process.
  • Written proof of researcher credentials and research purpose, such as an academic referral, may also be required.
  • There is no charge to register

  • Self service photography may be allowed on request, with all images to be solely for the purpose of private research and study.
