T. Bennett letterhead, 1863.
Thomas Bennett was a long established opticians in Cork, also specialising in technical equipment. The letterhead has a charming illustration showing the Bennett premises near St. Patrick’s bridge. The tall houses on Camden Quay and the distinctive tower of St. Anne’s Church Shandon can be seen in the background. The invoice seeks payment for goods supplied over the previous five years: selling goods ‘on account’ was common, but could mean difficulty in obtaining payment.
