Art and the Archive Workshop
A workshop was held on 14 June to encourage more artists, writers, musicians, and creative practitioners in general, to use and explore archives as a resource and inspiration for their creative endeavours. 10 participants took part in an intimate, hands-on workshop, where they had the opportunity to examine interesting material from various archive collections in the research room, with archivists on hand to guide the participants through exploring and handling the material.
The workshop also featured talks by Brian Mac Domhnaill, director of Lavit Gallery, and Felix Meehan, archivist at Cork City and County Archives. Brian spoke about his experience of using the collections in the archives in the creation of an art piece which is on display in the research room.
The workshop was kindly supported by Cork City Council Arts Office’s Creative Ireland Programme for 2024.
