News of Recent Accessions

The CCCA receives, on average, several new collections each year. This includes archival records transferred from the City and County Councils, and records privately deposited. In 2022, we received 37 new collections. Archival collections are often very large (100s and 1000s of items). For information on depositing records in CCCA, see Deposit Archives

Deposit of Dáibhí de Barra/Davy of the Glen Manuscript

Carrigtwohill and District Historical Society (CDHS) have deposited an exceedingly rare and important literary manuscript by Dáibhí de Barra (c1757-d1851), writer, poet and scribe who worked in both Irish and English.

The manuscript contains a 92 line poem in English concerning a 'Schoolmaster' to 'came to Midleton in 1825'. It is also signed by a 'J.Doherty'.  Descendants of this 'J.Doherty' in the USA preserved the item down through the generations before donating it to CDHS.

The deposit of the item in the Archives has ensured that it will be preserved for future generations, and available for research as part of our public records.

Donation of Ronan Solicitors /Records of Cuskinny House

The CCCA recently received the kind donation from Simon Ronan and family formerly of Cuskinny House, Cobh, Co. Cork, of solicitors records and legal documents. The records, which mostly date from the 1700s to the early 1900s, relate to the Ronan Solicitors practice, South Mall, Cork, and the French family and estate, and other estates such as McNamara, Twogood, Sugrue, and Gould. The records have survived, in mainly good condition, in large metal deed boxes. The CCCA is delighted to add this archive to our collection alongside our other major archives from 20 other solicitors' practices, and 460 large and small landed estate archives. Such archives are a rich historical and genealogical source.
